Saint Porphyrios the Kafsokalyvitis (Οσιοσ Πορφυριοσ ο Καυσοκαλυβιτησ)

During my time in Greece I have heard many stories about the life of St. Porphyrios. He lived an extraordinary life. Like leaving for Mount Athos to be a monk at age 12. This type of focus in a young person is something from a story of the Saints from a 1000 years ago, but St. Porphyrios was born in 1906. He is a modern Saint, just canonized in 2013.

He lived a life of humility and great love for God. If you have not read his book: “Wounded by Love” please do so. The stories of modern Saints are essential sources of life for modern Christians.

Saint Porphyrios the Kafsokalyvitis Οσιοσ

Silence

Silence should be kept secretly and in your heart. Make sure that is not obvious to others that you maintain silence. As soon as you have said two or three words, continue immediately inside of you to send prayers for everybody to the Lord. Embrace secretly in your heart, with love, the entire world. All the Church … Make holy your silence by praying so is not sterile and barren.

Holiness

You don’t become holy by fighting evil. Let evil be. Look towards Christ and that will save you. What makes a person saintly is love.”
